The impact of this book that I read as a teenager many years ago never ceases to amaze me. Nicky’s story tells how JESUS led him from a life of hatred and horror into a life of rejoicing and redemption by the power of the Holy Spirit through the obedience of a very brave skinny preacher from PA, David Wilkerson. Every teenager should be given this book to read. Every Christian should read this story. I will never cease to remember Nicky’s story or share his story with a joy filled heart. I love reading about how Nicky Cruz became a Child of God through Jesus. I have often related his story to people when applicable to the situation or just to share about the power of Holy Spirit and how God can mightily use just one man who trusts and obeys God. I never tire of sharing the part when Jesus got a hold of Nicky. Nicky’s story is particularly meaningful to me because my father is Puerto Rican. My parents lived in the Fort Greene area in 1958 during the very same months that David Wilkerson first walked the streets of New York and then proceeded to minister to the gangs. Just a few months before I was born in 1958, Nicky was changed by the power of God’s Holy Spirit. It may be silly, but it makes me feel connected to him. I can never share his story without a smile on my face and joy in my heart. I love how God changed this man. If a man like Nicky was can be changed by the power of God, nobody is beyond the reach of the power of God. ��
